Portfolio Reflection - please reflect on one piece of work from your Nature of Science Unit.
Choose one of the assignments
Choose the competency (Communication, Problem Solving, Teamwork, Use of Numbers and Data) which it demonstrates.
On a separate piece of paper do the reflection. Remember you are trying to connect this assignment with the competency. Focus on that first. How does it show it?
Then you can focus on:
What you did well? (Strengths)
What you have improved on from previous assignments and work? I'm doing this much better .... (Areas of Improvement)
What are some areas of concern? Things to work on next time to make it better? (Concerns)
How can you be more successful? How are you going to improve next time? (Actions Needed)
ATTENTION!!!!!!
If you scored a 70% or below on your Density Lab you MUST redo the parts that where missing. Please see below for expectations:
Measurement Quiz (Oct. 15 or 25) - Review in class
volume, mass, denisty
converting units
tools
Final Lab Report - Density Lab
-show all calculations and formulas or equations (especially for density, measuring volume, and displacement method)
-list the procedures for these four steps:
Calculating mass
Calculating volume with the the measurement method (W x H x L)
Calculating volume with the displacement method
Calculating the density
Remember to always say to record.
5 steps to an awesome Conclusion
restate purpose
tell what you did and found out
restate hypothesis and say whether it proves or disproves it
errors and problems that occurred ... anything that might have affected your results (thing about the meaurements ... could you have been off? did you round?)
new hypothesis or new experiment
Turn in your sheet from the class even if you retype or rewrite the lab.
Science Notebook Help!
If you were unhappy with you science notebook grade (or you got a C or below), I will be holding a morning session to help organize your notebook and put together the table of contents. I will do everything to help you get an A during the next notebook check. Block E Sept 17th, Block D Sept 24th, Block B 28th 7:00 - 8:00 am. You are welcome to come to any of the three times. You have to get here on your own and I will walk you through putting the notebook together.
Scientific Notebook Check (10% of your grade) on Sept 14th or 15th
Important documents in front
syllabus, rubrics, lab safety, and lab report guideline handouts
"Do Now" tab
all the Do Now's we have done for warm-ups in class
"Nature of Science" tab (NOS)
Table of contents (date, title, page # location)
All the assignments including homework, classwork, labs, quizzes, notes (all with dates, name, block, and a page number)
If everything has a date like it should then you can order the work chronologically (earliest work first)
Scientific Investigation Notes Part 1 (Observation - Inference)
